Beaver Pond
Net-zero home
Fayston, VT
Completed October 2022
I met the Kaczenski family, also from Massachusetts, on a chairlift at Sugarbush Ski Resort, and we became good friends while skiing the backcountry. At the time, the Kaczenskis were living in a condominium in Waitsfield, Vermont. A neighbor had recently purchased a lot in a small development in Fayston. There was one lot remaining and Jeff asked what I thought about building a home there. After looking at the site, I recommended they purchase and contact Huntington homes to build an energy-efficient prefab. They proceeded with the purchase, sold their condo, and moved ahead with Huntington. They chose a plan, but discovered it could take up to two years for delivery of the prefab. In order to not lose multiple ski seasons, they asked Home Energy to build their home instead.
The house has a small footprint, 34’ x 26’, with a single garage underneath. The garage was designed to get out of the weather quickly upon arrival. The basement is finished with a small mud room and rumpus room. The first floor includes a guest room, laundry and bath with a shower, and kitchen open to the dining room and living room. The second floor has two bedrooms and a full bathroom.
The home has a stunning view of Mt. Baldy and is located about 15 minutes from Mad River Glen and Sugarbush’s Mt. Ellen.
