West Hill

Net-zero home

Warren, VT

Completed June 2017

West Hill was our first truly net-zero energy home.  We took lessons learned from participation in the Mass Save Deep Energy Retrofit Program and our knowledge of geothermal and solar power and wove them into the design of the home. The house combines the energy efficiency of a water-to-water ground source heat pump with twelve inch thick walls, twenty inch attic insulation, triple-glazed Marvin windows, and passive-solar heat gain from three stories of south facing windows and a three season room.

The home features a south-facing walkout basement apartment. The first floor has a two-stall garage, full bath, laundry room, living room, kitchen, music room, and three-season room, featuring nine oversized windows and a glass door. The second floor has a game room over the garage, two baths, two bedrooms, and a reading nook.
